Central State beats D'Youville for first win of the season
BUFFALO, New York - The Central State Marauders defeated D'Youville in straight sets for the program's first win of the season.
With the win, CSU ends a 9-match losing streak. D'Youville falls to 4-7 on the season.
Up 10-9 in the first , CSU scored eight of the next 10 points and went on to a 25-17 win.Â
CSU trailed 16-10 in the second set. Four errors by D'Youville, kills by
Jayden Rookhuyzen and
D'Aaron McCraney, and a service ace by Rookhuyzen knotted the score at 17-17. After swapping points to a 20-20 tie, CSU was the beneficiary of five straight D'Youville errors and the Marauders went on to a 25-21 second set win.
With a 13-12 lead in the third set, CSU scored the next four points to go up by five. The Marauders maintained the lead for the remainder of the set, keeping at least a three-point cushion through the duration of the match. Kills by
Carlos Pinto, Rookhuyzen and
Cameron Lee helped CSU seal the third set, 25-20, and the first win of the year.
CSU attackers combined for 30 kills and 12 errors on 71 total attacks while D'Youville finished with 26 kills and 17 errors on 73 attacks.Â
McCraney led CSU with 9 kills. McCraney also served two aces and recorded two blocks.
Marcus Franck finished with 21 assists and
Victor Scherer had 10 digs.Â
Jacob Malok had a match-high 12 kills to lead D'Youville's offensive efforts.
CSU will play at Daemen on Saturday at 1 pm.
