Central State loses to Edward Waters, 45-13

 
WILBERFORCE, Ohio – The Central State Marauders dropped their third straight contest in a 45-13 home loss to Edward Waters on Saturday.

 
With Saturday's loss, the Marauders now stand at 2-6 overall and 1-4 in SIAC play. EWU improves to 2-6 on the year and 2-4 in the conference.

 
CSU surrendered 465 yards of offense to EWU while giving the ball away five times.

 
Edward Waters opened the scoring as De'Shaun Hugee capped off a 7 play, 86 yard drive with a 12-yard rushing touchdown. On the ensuing kickoff, Central State fumbled the ball away and gave the EWU offense the ball at the CSU 10 yard line. Three plays later, Tyler King found the endzone from four yards out to extend the Tiger lead to 14-0. At the 3:29 mark of the first, Central State surrendered a safety as Chase Powers sacked Brandon Kyles in the endzone. After the safety punt from Central State, Edward Waters hit the scoreboard once again as Jake Bandy connected on his first field goal of his collegiate career from 37 yards out to give the Tigers a 19-0 lead.

 
The only scoring in the second quarter came on the feet of quarterback Jyron Russell, scoring a six yard rushing TD to give the Purple & Orange a 25-0 lead at halftime.

 
Tyler King scored his second rushing TD of the game in the third quarter to extend the Edward Waters lead to 32-0. Central State ended their scoreless drought on a two-yard rushing TD to make the score 32-7 in favor of Edward Waters with 7:30 remaining in the third.

 
Switch quarterbacks in the fourth quarter, EWU's David Johnson found Ferante Cowart down the right sideline on a 21-yard touchdown pass to give EWU a 38-7 advantage. Central State cut into the Tiger lead with a pass from Kyles to Micah Lowe at the 8:21 mark of the fourth. The scoring barrage ended at the 6:02 mark of the fourth when Greg Mango scored for EWU to provide the final score line of 45-13.

 
Central State will travel to face Lane College in Jackson, Tennessee next Saturday at 2 pm.

EWU held CSU to season lows in passing yards (150) and points (13).


EWU leads to the all-time series, 2-1. The schools began playing each other in 2019 when EWU joined the SIAC.

CSU is now 0-7 at home since the installation of the school's field turf and renovations to the stadium.

CSU linebacker Jalil Lenore has recorded 10 or more tackles in every game this season. Lenore recorded 12 on Saturday.

CSU defensive lineman Mike White recorded three tackles for a loss and a sack on Saturday and leads the team with 11.5 tackles for a loss and five sacks this season.
