Central State loses to Lane, 42-31

JACKSON, Tennessee – The Central State Marauders lost to Lane on the road on Saturday, 42-31.

Lane (5-4; 4-2) capitalized on good field position after opening the game with a 42-yard kickoff return. Passes of 34 yards and 10 yards had the Lane offense down to the six-yard line before Marlen Peters scored from six yards out.

CSU scored its first points midway through the first quarter as
Jose Chaires connected on a 31 yard field goal.

Early in the second quarter, LC quarterback Michael Huntley found Jacquez Jones for a 54 yard touchdown to give the Dragons a 14-3 lead. After a 28 yard punt return by
Brandon Brock, CSU took advantage of field positioning. On the Lane 10 yard-line, CSU quarterback
Brandon Kyles found running back
Kaz Dina through the air for a nine-yard touchdown.

After a LC interception, LC quickly went 30 yard down the field to extend their lead to 21-10 with 4:54 to play in half. The Marauders responded with a 10-play, 80 yard touchdown drive as a 26-yard pass from Kyles to
Tahliq Battle brought CSU within four by halftime.

The Marauders took their first lead of the game on the opening drive of the second half. CSU marched 73 yards in eight plays as Kyles passed to
Micah Lowe from 21 yard out to give the Marauders a 24-21 lead.

Lane immediately responded. After a 46 yard kickoff return, Lane relied on its rushing attack, accumulating 42 yards on the ground on the drive as Huntley ran for a seven-yard score to reclaim the lead.

LC added to its lead after an interception gave the ball back to the Dragons at midfield. On fourth down with eight yards to go, Huntley found a streaking Jones for a 30 yard score to put Lane up by 11.

Central State pulled back with four on a 12 play, 68 yard drive capped off by a pass from Kyles to
EJ Wash at the 12:55 mark of the fourth quarter.

Lane answered with seven straight running plays ending with a five yard run by Lutrell Pruitt to give the Dragons a 42-31 lead with 8:43 to play.

LC used an efficient running game as rushers combined for 329 yards, 7.8 yards per carry, and four rushing touchdowns.
