Marauders earn season sweep over Spring Hill with 86-79 win

WILBERFORCE, Ohio – The Central State Marauders beat Spring Hill for the second time in a week with a 86-79 win on Saturday.

With the win, CSU improves to 11-10 overall record with a 8-6 ledger in SIAC play. SHC falls to 6-17 overall and 5-9 in the conference.

Led by a dominant first half from Dreon Lewis, CSU led by as many as 19 and took a 50-34 lead at intermission. Lewis made seven of 10 shots for 15 points and grabbed six rebounds on what CSU head coach Joseph Price would later say was the big man's best span of basketball this season.

SHC fought back with a 11-3 run to open the second half. A three-pointer by Harris Brown ended the Badger run and put CSU back up by double-figures. The Marauders stretched their lead back up to 15 as Brown hit again from beyond the arc with 7:59 to go. SHC marched right back with a 9-0 run to cut the CSU lead down, 73-67, with 5:28 left.

Lewis provided a lift for the Marauders, converting a three-point play to put his team back up by nine. Spring Hill refused to go away, chopping the lead down to five with 47 seconds left. Darweshi Hunter sealed the game for CSU with two free throws and a dunk in the final minute to give CSU the seven-point win.

Committing a season-low five turnovers, CSU held a 19-4 edge in points off of turnovers.

Lewis led the Marauders with 20 points and 10 rebounds. Hunter fought through an off shooting night to finish with 20 points and nine rebounds. Brown scored 19 points and Tom Johnsons added 13 points and nine assists in the victory.

SHC was paced by Chase Shellman's 24 points and 17 rebounds.

CSU will host Tuskegee on Monday night.

QUOTES FROM COACH JOSEPH PRICE

"We learned a lot from tonight's game. Spring Hill made us earn everything tonight. Our guys did a great job of taking care of the ball and responding to adversity. Today was a great all around effort."

"Dreon Lewis had one of his bests games as a Marauder. When we needed a basket, he stepped up for us. We will need more of that from Dreon as we go through the final stretch of the season,"

"We will keep working on a mental toughness and focus moving forward into our next game against Tuskegee."
