WILBERFORCE, Ohio – The Central State Marauders fell behind by double digits early and never recovered in a 38-8 loss to Quincy in the opening game of 2019.

CSU set back drops the team to 0-1 on the season while QU opens the year at 1-0.

HOW IT HAPPENED
 
1st Quarter

Quincy went to its no-huddle offense on its opening drive of the game resulting in a 9 play, 65 yard drive capped off by a 6 yard pass from quarterback Andrew Rund to Beau Kafka at 12:38 (QU 6-0)

QU scored its second touchdown at the 3:31 mark of the opening quarter as running back Oscee Calhoun crossed the goal line from 4 yards (QU 12-0)

 
2nd Quarter

The Hawks scored on their opening drive of the second quarter, going 65 yards in 11 plays capped of by a 1-yard run by Jalen Griffin (18-0)
 
CSU threatened to score but Frank Cocio's pass attempt was intercepted in the endzone to put an abrupt halt to a 56 yard drive with 10:15 left in the half (QU 18-0)
 
 
Quincy successfully executed its two minute offense with a 9 play, 68 yard touchdown drive to end the half. Jalen Griffin scored his second rushing touchdown from one yard out. After a converted two-point conversion, QU took a commanding lead into halftime (QU 26-0)

 
3rd Quarter

QU maintained momentum with another touchdown on its first drive of the second half as Rund found an open Marlin Washington for a 10-yard score (QU 32-0)
 

4th Quarter


Still in search of their first score, CSU backup quarterback Derrell Williams found Dalane Brown II streaking down the sideline for a 72-yard pickup. Williams ended the drive with a 5-yard touchdown run. Terraris Saffold rushed for the two-point conversion with 3:44 to play (QU 32-8)
 
 
In full control, Quincy turned to their backup quarterback Trey Mosley, who led the Hawks on a 4 play, 65 yard touchdown drive capped off with a 15 yard pass to Carlton Stamp (QU 38-8)




 
INSIDE THE BOX SCORE

CSU played Saturday's game shorthanded as starting linebacker Kailen Abrams, starting fullback Darius Meadors and kicker Joshua Nunes were unavailable to play. CSU was also short upfront as the Marauders entered Saturday with six active offensive linemen. The Marauder depth is expected to improve as CSU prepares for its week two opponent in Southwest Baptist.



Without a reliable place kicker, CSU was forced to attempt seven fourth down conversions and were successful on four attempts.
 
 
Quincy outgained the Marauders by over 200 yards offensively (526-325).



CSU's receiver Dalane Brown II caught five passes for a game-high 87 yards in his Marauder debut.
 
 
CSU's Kwantay Stanley led all players with a career high 14 tackles. Stanley also recorded a sack and two pass break ups.




UP NEXT


The Marauders will travel to play a non-conference game at Southwest Baptist on Sept. 14 at 6 pm cst. SBU is also 0-1 after losing its opening game, 29-9, to William Jewell.
