BOLIVAR, Missouri – The Central State Marauders lost to Southwest Baptist, 38-3, on Saturday.

With the latest loss, CSU drops to 0-2 on the season while SBU improves to 1-1 overall.

HOW IT HAPPENED
 
1st Quarter

SBU scored on the opening drive of the game as Dylan Mountain ran for a 14-yard touchdown at the 12:59 mark of the first quarter (SBU 7-0)
 
 
CSU's opening drive lasted just one play as a Derrell Williams pass was intercepted by SBU's Tevin Hall


A field goal by SBU's Kyle Ghetes was good from 34 yards to give SBU a 10-point lead with 3:08 left in the first quarter (SBU 10-0)



 
2nd Quarter


Facing fourth down with 16 yards to go on the CSU 32 yard line, SBU opted to go for it and converted as Mountain completed a pass to Curtis Collard for a 32-yard touchdown at the 12:45 mark of the second quarter (SBU 16-0)
 
 
CSU went on a 6 play, 46-yard drive for their only score of the game as Joshua Nunes converted on a 38-yard field goal (SBU 16-3)
 
 
SBU added another score with 5:37 to play in the first half as Eric Knight ran for a 10-yard touchdown (SBU 22-3)



 
3rd Quarter


CSU's first drive of the second half came to a halt when quarterback Frank Cocio's pass was intercepted by DJ Davis
 
 
The CSU defense got the ball back when Javion Williams forced a fumble and Terry Taylor recovered for the Marauders at their own 15-yard line.
 
 
Mountain found Cuillard again for a 19-yard touchdown strike with 5:08 left in the third quarter (SBU 29-3)
 
 
SBU forced a turnover, recovering a CSU fumble and returning it 56 yards down to the CSU 14-yard line. SBU settled for a 22 yard field goal with 1:11 left in the quarter (SBU 32-3)


 

4th Quarter


SBU scored the only points by either team in the fourth quarter with a 5 play, 57 yard touchdown drive capped off by a 2-yard rush by Bryce Cabrera at the 13:13 mark (38-3)




 
INSIDE THE BOX SCORE



CSU played Saturday's game shorthanded as starting linebacker Kailen Abrams and starting fullback Darius Meadors were unavailable to play. CSU was also short upfront as the Marauders entered Saturday with six active offensive linemen. Abrams and Meadors are expected back for next Saturday's game against Clark Atlanta.



CSU surrendered 317 yards on the ground.
 

CSU runner Terraris Saffold eclipsed the century mark with 107 rushing yards.
 
 
In his second game playing for CSU, lineman Donta Marshall recorded 11 tackles with 3.5 tackles for a loss.






UP NEXT



The Marauders enter conference play next Saturday when they travel to play SIAC opponent Clark Atlanta (0-2). The game is scheduled for a 6 pm kickoff in CAU's Panther Stadium.
