Lady Marauders cruise past Benedict, 3-0
 

ALBANY, Georgia – The Central State volleyball team cruised to a 3-0 victory over Benedict College on Thursday afternoon in the opening day of the SIAC Crossover.

 
CSU never trailed in the opening set and won by its largest margin of the season, 25-10. The second set proved to be more competitive early on as the teams played to an 15-15 tie before CSU broke away with a 10-1 run sparked by five kills from Deja Clark to win, 25-16.

 
BC bounced back to score the first five points of the third set. A kill by CSU freshman Cormaria Cooksey helped CSU regain momentum and they went on to go on another 10-1 run to take a 10-6 lead. CSU remained in control of the third set. BC came as close as three points (21-18) but the Lady Marauders continued their persistence as kills by Cooksey and Desiree Howard helped seal the victory.

 
With the victory, CSU stands at 3-9 overall with a 3-4 record in SIAC play.


Clark led all players with 14 kills. She also recorded two blocks and 12 digs. Cooksey added eight kills and a match-high 17 digs. Kayla Adams (19) and Adaiah Johnson (13) combined for 32 assists.

 
CSU will continue conference play on Thursday night against Clark Atlanta followed by Friday matches against Paine, Savannah State and Fort Valley State.
