Marauders fall to Kentucky State, 82-69


WILBERFORCE, Ohio – The Central State Marauders lost to the Kentucky State Thorobreds, 82-69, on Saturday.


The loss drops the Marauders to 5-20 overall with a 3-12 mark in SIAC play. With the win, KSU is now 9-14 this season with a 7-8 conference record.
 
CSU built a 11-point lead, 17-6, at the 13:04 mark of the first half. Up 30-23 after a Malik Fisher three-pointer with 3:18 remaining in the half, Dattalion Battle knocked down back-to-back three-pointers to spark a 11-2 run for KSU. The teams traded baskets in the final minute with CSU guard Randal Clarkson, Jr. converting a full court heave as time expired to give the Marauders a 37-36 lead at intermission.
 
Battle scored eight of his team's first 11 points to help CSU to a five point lead at the 14:35 mark. Trailing 61-52, CSU went on a 7-0 run capped off by an Orion Monford make from three-point range to cut the deficit down to two with seven minutes to play. KSU responded with a 17-4 run to take control of the game, 78-63, with just 1:09 left and cruised to the eventual 13-point win.
 
KSU held a 40-20 edge in points scored in the paint. KSU also outscored CSU on the fast break, 18-2.
 
Battle led all played with 26 points. David Jelks contributed to the KSU victory with 20 points and nine rebounds.
 
Tom Johnson paced CSU's efforts with 18 points, seven rebounds, and six assists. Monford finished with 14 points.
 
CSU will face Kentucky State again on Monday in Frankfort, Kentucky

With Saturday's results, the all-time series between CSU and KSU is now tied, 56-56.
 
 
 
CSU has recorded 20 losses for the first time since the 1996-1997 season.
