FRANKFORT, Kentucky – The Central State Marauders suffered their third consecutive loss, falling to Kentucky State, 77-70, on Monday.


The loss drops the Marauders to 5-21 overall with a 3-13 mark in SIAC play. With the win, KSU is now 11-13 this season with a 9-7 conference record.
 
Up by one at the 11:44 mark of the first half, CSU surrendered a 7-2 run and never regained the lead. KSU led by as many as seven in the opening half and took a 28-24 lead at the break. Leading 37-30 with 16:08 remaining the second half, KSU guard Datalion Battle scored the Thorobreds next seven points to spark a 10-2 run. The Thorobreds took their largest lead, 57-39, after a David Jelks basket. KSU maintained their 19-point cushion into the final media timeout of the game. The Marauders battled back to narrow the gap to seven points with 1:58 to play but managed just two field goals in the final stages of the game, allowing KSU to claim the seven-point victory.
 
The Thorobreds converted 45% of their shot attempts compared to CSU's 39.7% shooting performance. KSU went to free throw line 30 times, making 18 free throws while CSU made just 11 trips to the charity stripe with a total of eight makes.
 
Battle led KSU with 17 points, six rebounds, and six assists. Jelks led all players with 15 rebounds to go along with 10 points.
 
CSU guard Tom Johnson led all scorers with 21 points.
 
 
CSU will return home to host Tuskegee University this Saturday at 3 pm.
