Saffold's career day not enough in Central State's 77-34 loss to Fort Valley State

WILBERFORCE, Ohio – Central State running back
Terraris Saffold finished with a career-high 235 rushing yards and three touchdowns but it was not enough as Fort Valley State came back from an early 14-3 deficit to cruise to a 77-34 win.

With the victory, FVSU improves to 4-2 overall with a 2-0 mark in SIAC play. CSU drops to 2-4 on the season with a 1-1 record in the conference.

FVSU opened the scoring with a Eli Washburn field goal at the 9:39 mark of the first quarter (FVSU 3-0).

CSU responded on the ensuing kickoff when
Derell Williams took the kick back 92-yards for the Marauder touchdown (CSU 7-3).

CSU scored again on its next possession when running back
Terraris Saffold broke to the open field for a 73-yard touchdown (CSU 14-3).

FVSU capitalized off a roughing the punter call. With a new set of downs, the Wildcats went on to score with 2:14 left in the first quarter (CSU 14-9).

FVSU took the lead with an 8 play, 41-yard scoring drive capped off by a Malik Route touchdown catch with 9:37 left in the half (FVSU 17-14).

CSU reclaimed the lead when quarterback
Frank Cocio found
Dalane Brown II in the end zone with 7:21 left in the quarter (CSU 20-17).

FVSU went on to score three times in the final five minutes of the half. A two-yard run by Marlon Fleming ended a 75-yard touchdown drive to put FVSU up by five (FVSU 25-20).

With CSU driving, FVSU recovered a TiShaun Gunter fumble for a 68-yard score (FVSU 31-20).

CSU fumbled the ball away again in the FVSU red zone as
Terraris Saffold was stripped of the ball and Aaron Dore return it for another 68-yard touchdown return (FVSU 37-20).

FVSU opened the third quarter with a 69-yard touchdown drive as Slade Jarman found an open Shemar Bridges for an 18-yard score (FVSU 45-20).

Saffold recorded his second run of over 70 yards, scoring from 72-yards out at the 6:02 mark of the third quarter (FVSU 45-27).

Jarman threw his fourth touchdown of the day, finding QA Walker for a 13-yard score with 4:22 left in the third quarter (FVSU 53-27).

Jarman used his legs to score at the end of the quarter, running for a two-yard touchdown (FVSU 59-27

Saffold finished a 66-yard scoring drive with an 18-yard touchdown rush with 14:05 left to play (FVSU 59-34).

FVSU backup quarterback Demontay Jones found a streaking Malik Route in the middle of the field for a 58-yard touchdown with 13:26 left (FVSU 67-34).

Mashburn kicked a 32-yard field goal with 8:44 remaining (FVSU 70-34).

Saffold entered Saturday as the SIAC leader in rushing yards and all-purpose yards. He finished with 235 yards and three touchdowns on 13 carries. He also caught three passes for 28 yards and returned three kicks for 54 yards.
