LeMoyne-Owen handles Central State, 78-69

LeMoyne-Owen cruises to 78-69 win over Central State


WILBERFORCE, Ohio – The Central State Marauders were unable to keep pace with the Magicians of LeMoyne-Owen in a 78-69 conference loss on Saturday.
 
The loss drops the Marauders to 4-18 overall with a 2-10 mark in SIAC play. LOC improves to 15-7 on the year with a 9-4 record in the conference.
 
LOC jumped out to as many as 18 in the first half relying on the scoring of Devin Booker. Booker finished the half with 10 points as LOC took a 37-22 lead into the intermission.
 
While struggling from three-point range for the majority of the afternoon, Orion Monford began to find his shot in the second half. Monford knocked down back-to-back three-pointers in transition which narrowed the deficit down to single digits, 45-36, at the 13:49 mark of the second half. LOC's Jerry Hurt answered by making two three-pointers of his own as the Magicians built the lead back up to fifteen. LOC maintained a comfortable lead throughout the remainder of the second half. Up 72-55 after a Andrew Anderson basket with 4:28 to go, LOC was able to coast to the eventual nine-point victory.
 
LOC used a significant size advantage by outscoring CSU, 48-24, in the paint.
 
Booker led LOC with 22 points and five rebounds. Hurt finished with 13 points and six assists. 11 of LOC's players scored.
 
Monford led CSU with a game-high 23 points. Quinton Glaspie scored 14 points and Michael Reeves added 10 points.
 
CSU will host Lane College on Monday.

With Saturday's results, LOC sweeps the regular season series (2-0).
 
Monford's 23 points is a new collegiate career high.
