Wayne State downs Marauders, 69-50


WILBERFORCE, Ohio – Playing their third game in four days, the Central Marauders fell to Wayne State University, 69-50, on Wednesday night.


The loss drops CSU to 4-17 overall. WSU improves to 4-11 this season.
 
CSU battled with the GLIAC (Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference) school for the majority of the first half. Trailing by nine late in the half, sophomore Quinton Glaspie hit a fade away three-pointer in the corner to bring the Marauders within six, 36-30, at halftime.
 
CSU offense began to deteroriate in the second half. The Marauders went 0-12 from three-point range in the final 20 minutes while being outrebounded, 26-13. Wayne State forward Javon Henderson recorded 13 of his game-high 21 points and grabbed eight rebounds in the second half as the Warriors pulled away to the 19-point victory.
 
WSU held the edge in second chance points, 14-4, and scored 12 points of CSU turnovers. The Marauders managed just two points off of 12 Wayne State turnovers while the CSU bench was outscored by the WSU reserves, 25-6.
 
In addition to Henderson's game-highs in points and rebounds, Latin Davis added to Wayne State's totals with 19 points, eight rebounds and six assists. Darian Owens-White added 13 points and six rebounds.
 
Freshman Michaela Reeves led CSU's efforts with 14 points and seven rebounds. Martin Olivers also finished with 14 points along with five rebounds and three steals. Glaspie tallied 10 points and five rebounds.


The Marauders will resume conference play when they host LeMoyne-Owen this Saturday at 3 pm.

Wednesday's meeting marked the 19th time CSU and WSU have played each other. The series dates back to the 1975-76 season.
 
CSU junior guard Tom Johnson recorded his 300th career assist on Wednesday.
