Marauders fade away in loss to Miles

Central State fades away in loss to Miles


FAIRFIELD, Alabama – The Central State Marauders came up short in Monday's 63-58 loss to Shawnee State.
 
The loss drops CSU to a record of 2-14 overall with a 1-8 mark in SIAC play. MC improves to 10-4 on the season with a perfect 7-0 ledger in the conference.

CSU jumped out to a 19-7 lead capped off by a Josiah Wilson basket at the 11:07 mark of the first half. MC stormed back with a 13-2 run as a Miles Meredith fastbreak dunk brought the Golden Bears within one-point, 21-20. The teams exchanged the lead in the final minutes of the opening half before Miles added two Devonte Fuller free throws and a Labryon Harris basket to take a 31-27 lead at intermission.
 
After a three-point play from CSU's Tom Johnson knotted the score, 36-36, Miles took full control. Three pointers from Nathan Sheffield and Jelani Watson-Gayle sparked a 19-3 Miles run. During Miles' run, CSU committed eight turnovers and missed six straight field goal attempts. The Miles lead ballooned up to as many as 21 as the Golden Bears cruised to their third straight victory.
 
Jeffrey Docket came off the bench to lead Miles with 14 points, seven assists, and five steals. Sheffield finished with 13 points and six rebounds. Fuller recorded 12 points and six rebounds.
 
Dreon Lewis led CSU's efforts with 12 points and eight rebounds.
 
The Marauders will return to action on Monday at Tuskegee University.

Dreon Lewis has scored in double-figures in every game since becoming active on Dec. 28.
 
CSU was held to a season-low 48 points on Saturday.
 
MC is currently in first place in the SIAC West Division; Tuskegee is in second place in the division.
