Marauders unable to keep up with Wilberforce in 83-70 loss
WILBERFORCE, Ohio – Another chapter in the historic HBCU rivalry between the Wilberforce Bulldogs and Central State Marauders ended with WU coming away with a 83-70 victory.
The loss drops CSU to 6-12 overall. WU improves to 4-13 on the season.
Arthur Haggard and Tony Collins combined to score 25 points in the first half as WU took a 45-23 lead at intermission.
Down by 24 in the early stages of the second half, CSU leading scorer
Chris Scott began to take advantage of the mismatch in the paint, scoring 18 points in the second frame to help CSU cut the lead down, 72-60, with 5:22 remaining. Scott would be forced to watch the final 4:24 from the bench when he was whistled for his fifth foul. Playing without Scott, CSU kept fighting as
Frank Barber III scored on consecutive possessions to cut the deficit down to nine with 2:38 to play. CSU was unable to nudge any closer as WU converted of 4 of 5 field goals and added two free throws down the stretch to win the game.
WU converted 10 of 22 three-point field goals compared to CSU's 4 of 15 performance from the perimeter.
Haggard led the Bulldogs with 21 points. Collins finished with 19 points off the bench.
CSU's Scott managed to score a game-high 26 points despite his foul troubles. Barber III recorded 10 points and 9 rebounds.
The Marauders resume conference play on Monday when they travel to Mobile, Alabama to play Spring Hill.

Notes
The CSU and WU campuses are divided by US Route 42. The distance from one gym to the other is a mere few hundred yards.
CSU is in a tie for first in SIAC West Division with rival Kentucky State.
Chris Scott is the reigning SIAC Newcomer of the Week.
