Three pointers prove to be the difference in Central State's 87-78 loss to Christian Brothers University

MEMPHIS, Tennessee – The three-point shot proved to be the difference as the Buccaneers of Christian University downed the Central State Marauders, 87-78, on Sunday.

CBU shot 50 percent (32-of-64) from the field, including 40 percent (12-of-30) from three-point range. CSU shot 49.2 percent (32-of-65) overall but just 18.8 percent (3-of-16) from beyond the arc.

Losing to CBU for the second time in three days, Sunday's result dropped the Marauders to 0-2 overall. The Bucaneers improved their record to 2-0.

Neither team could gain any separation in the opening half which included 10 ties, 10 lead changes and no lead of more than four points.

CSU appeared to have the momentum midway through the second half. CSU took their largest lead of the game with 13:50 remaining on a Martin Oliver fast break dunk after a Dwight Richards triple, giving them a 53-49 edge.

Adam Dieball provided the answer for CBU. Dieball MADE back-to-back layups to tie the game at 53 and capped off an 8-2 CBU burst with another layup that gave his team a 57-55 lead with 8:52 remaining.

CSU knotted the game, 57-57, but Brad Miller struck for a three-pointer that put the Bucs in front for good. CBU went on a 12-4 run to take a 69-61 lead, and Rudy capped a 7-0 burst with a triple that gave the Bucs their largest lead of the game at 80-68 with 2:28 remaining. CSU never came closer than eight points in the final minutes.

Dieball finished with a career-high 33 points. Alex Trentman chipped in with 15 points in CBU's victory.

Oliver made 7 of 10 field goals to lead the Marauders with 16 points and 6 rebounds.
