Central State defensive end Justin Woods-West earns third All-America honor
Â
Wilberforce, Ohio — The postseason recognition continued for Central State's Justin Woods-West as the 6'2 defensive end was named to the 2015 HEROSports.com Division II All-America Team on Monday.
Woods-West, a senior from Detroit, MI, set a school record for most sacks in a season (13.5) since CSU achieved NCAA Div. II status in 2005. He finished as the SIAC leader in sacks and tackles for loss (22).
Woods-West helped restore CSU back to respectability as the team finished with a 5-5 ledger in 2015, the best record the program has had since 1995. Defensively, CSU put together an impressive resume. The team was nationally ranked in the following categories:
Â
·        No. 9 in total team defense
·        No. 1 in sacks (37)
·        No. 2 in tackles for loss (107)
·        No. 4 in takeaways (34)
·        No. 7 in rushing defense (89.2 ypg)
·        No. 9 in interceptions (21)
·        No. 16 in scoring defense
This is the third All-America honor for Woods-West. Last month, Woods-West was named to the AFCA All-America Team and was an Honorable Mention on BoxToRow's All-American Team. He was also selected to the D2CCA Super-Region Team and to the SIAC All-Defensive 1st Team.
Â
Woods-West continues to train in the offseason and will be participating in the Gridiron Football Showcase on Monday, Jan. 11 in Bedford, TX.
