Christina Coleman was hired as the head coach of the Lady Marauder volleyball program in June of 2019.
Coleman, who has previous head coaching experience at Shaw University, Georgetown College and Kentucky State University, has a combined collegiate head coaching record of 116-64.Â
In her only season at Shaw, Coleman led the Bears to an overall record of 23-9, the 2018 Central Intercollegiate Athletic Association (CIAA) title and a NCAA Div. II tournament appearance. Coleman coached the CIAA's Offensive Player of the Year (Keveesha Wattley), Defensive Player of the Year (Kelly Murphy) and Setter of the Year (Michelle Olmeda-Gonzalez). In addition, she served as SU's softball coach.
She spent the 2017 season at Georgetown (KY) guiding the Lady Tigers to a 22-6 overall record and 11-3 mark in the Mid-South Conference (MSC). While at GC, Coleman developed two all-conference selections and two NAIA All-Americans.
In three seasons at Kentucky State (2013-2016), Coleman went 71-49 overall with a 61-8 ledger in the Southern Intercollegiate Athletic Association (SIAC) with two SIAC tournament titles and two appearances in the NCAA Div. II tournament. During Coleman's tenure at KSU, she developed eight all-conference selections, seven all-tournament selections, and a back-to-back SIAC Player of the Year selection (Emily Grieshaber).
Coleman began her coaching career in 2010 as an assistant volleyball coach at Scott County High School in Georgetown, Kentucky. While at Scott County, Coleman coached a pair of all-conference players and an all-city selection. After one season at Scott County, Coleman was named the head volleyball coach and assistant track coach at Bryan Station High School in Lexington, Kentucky. At Bryan Station, she won three volleyball district titles, made an appearance in the second round of regionals, and developed three all-district tournament MVPs, two all-city selections and one all-state student-athlete. While assisting BSHS's track program, Coleman coached seven KHSAA individual champions, a pair of All-Americans, the 2010 KHSAA Girls State Runner-Ups and the 2012 KHSAA Boys State Champions. She spent the 2011 season the assistant volleyball coach at Tates Creek High School in Lexington, Kentucky, posting an overall record of 17-1.
Coleman also has experience coaching on the club level. She coached the Thoroughbred Elite Volleyball Alliance (TEVA) from 2008-2010 and Lexington United Volleyball (LUV) Association (2011-12) under Chris Beerman – a standout collegiate coach and former player.
Coleman, a 2005 KSU graduate, was a member of the school's volleyball and track & field teams from 2001-2004. Coleman guided the volleyball team to three consecutive runner-up finishes at the SIAC Championship Tournament, finishing as the team leader in digs and second on the team in hitting percentage each season.
Graduating with her Bachelors of Arts Degree in Physical Education with a minor in Athletic Training and Coaching from KSU in 2005, Coleman continue her academic pursuits at KSU, earning a Master's Degree in Special Education in 2010.
Coleman has been an active member of American Volleyball Coaches Association (AVCA) since 2007. She is also a member of the Alliance of Women's Coaches. In 2012, Coleman received the American Volleyball Coaches Association minority scholarship. Having experience coaching in the SIAC at KSU, Coleman served as the Co-Chair for the SIAC Volleyball Coaches Committee in 2013 and 2014. She was also nominated by the SIAC coaches and selected to serve on the NCAA Division II Women's Volleyball Regional Advisory Committee (RAC).
In addition to her regular coaching duties, Coleman has found time to volunteer in the community and to sharpen her coaching skills at some of the most elite volleyball camps in the country. She has volunteered with Lexington Blazing Cats Track Club and worked several camps for Lexington United Volleyball. In 2010, Coleman founded and operated Track Club and Lextown Lightning. During the summer of 2013, she was selected to be a lead coach at the Hornet Volleyball Camp at Alabama State University and at Butler University's Nike Volleyball Camp.
Coleman has two sons Derion and Dakari Talbert.
