Coach Will Ware Named Treasurer of the Black College Golf Coaches Association
Central State University men's and women's golf head coach Will Ware has been named Treasurer of the Black College Golf Coaches Association (BCGCA), a national organization dedicated to advancing golf at Historically Black Colleges and Universities (HBCUs) and expanding opportunities for minority student-athletes and coaches across the country.
The BCGCA plays a vital role in the growth of Black college golf through a comprehensive mission centered on scholarships, player development, education, and operational support. The association awards annual scholarships to high-achieving collegiate golfers, partners with industry leaders to provide internship opportunities, and creates elite competitive and developmental experiences throughout the collegiate season.
In addition, the BCGCA invests heavily in education and professional develop in black coaches , providing memberships to the Golf Coaches Association of America, access to national seminars and conventions, and discounted access to cutting-edge golf technology and training resources. These efforts ensure coaches are equipped to lead, mentor, and grow their programs at the highest level.
The association also offers direct operational support to Black college golf programs, including grant funding through the Thomas W. Dortch Collegiate Golf Classic, subsidized tournaments that help reduce travel and competition costs, and partnerships with the PGA of America to provide gift-in-kind sponsorship and services.
Coach Ware's appointment as Treasurer positions him at the forefront of these impactful initiatives. His leadership will help strengthen the financial foundation of the BCGCA while continuing to expand access, opportunity, and excellence in Black college golf.
"This is an honor and a responsibility," Ware said. "The work the BCGCA is doing is critical to the future of the game and to the young men and women we serve. I'm excited to contribute in a way that helps move our programs and our student-athletes forward."
