Wilberforce, Ohio --- The HBCU Makeda Excellence Awards, named after Queen Makeda of Sheba, honor leadership, wisdom, and excellence within the HBCU community. This year, Central State University Athletics proudly had two award recipients recognized for their outstanding achievements.

Ben Latham, Libero for the men's volleyball team, was named SIAC Libero of the Year and earned First Team All-SIAC honors. His impact was felt nationally as well, finishing second in NCAA Division I men's volleyball in digs per set, an incredible accomplishment that highlights his skill, consistency, and leadership on the court.

Coach Will Ware was recognized for his excellence in leadership and his critical role in establishing Central State's new golf programs. His vision goes beyond competition; he is dedicated to expanding access to golf for students and communities who may not have otherwise been introduced to the game. Through education, outreach, and innovative programming, Coach Ware is helping to make golf more inclusive and sustainable for the future.

The awards are presented by the Rice FAME Group, founded by Kentucky State University alumnus and Army veteran Lacy L. Rice Jr. The organization focuses on promoting HBCUs and celebrating individuals who embody the spirit of excellence and innovation.

Central State congratulates Ben Latham and Coach Will Ware for representing the Marauders with distinction and continuing the legacy of HBCU excellence.
