Defending National Champions Long Beach State Sweeps Marauders

Marauders Tested by Defending National Champion Long Beach State

WILBERFORCE, Ohio — Facing the defending national champion and current No. 2 team in the country, the Central State University men's volleyball team welcomed one of the sport's elite programs into Beacom/Lewis Gym on Tuesday evening. While the Marauders ultimately fell in straight sets to Long Beach State, the match served as a clear statement that Central State is prepared to compete with the nation's best and make every point earned.

The Central State Marauders showed growth and resilience throughout the contest, particularly in the third set, where they found their rhythm offensively and pushed the Beach harder than the final score indicated. After dropping the opening two sets, Central State battled Long Beach State point for point in the third, posting their most efficient offensive performance of the night before falling 25–20.

Toulmin Williams IV led the Marauders with seven kills, while Simon Falayi added five and Jaedyn Harris chipped in four. Setter Bradley Patrick guided the offense with 14 assists, helping Central State post its best hitting percentage in the final set (.333). Benjamin Latham anchored the back row with four digs as the Marauders worked to extend rallies against one of the most disciplined teams in the country.

Long Beach State showcased why it remains among the national elite, hitting .577 for the match and receiving balanced contributions across the lineup. Braedon Marquardt paced the Beach with nine kills, while Jackson Cryst was dominant at the net with six blocks.

Despite the outcome, the night marked a meaningful measuring stick for Central State. Competing against a perennial national power, the Marauders demonstrated toughness, composure, and a willingness to challenge every rally—key building blocks as the program continues to develop.

Central State will look to build on the experience gained from facing top-tier competition as the Marauders continue their early-season slate and prepare for conference play.
