Central State Men's Golf Season Preview

WILBERFORCE, Ohio – The Central State University Men's Golf program begins its second season under Head Coach Will Ware with a renewed sense of purpose. After a foundational debut campaign, the Marauders are eager to challenge for the top in the SIAC—anchored by standout returners and bolstered by promising newcomers.

Building on Year One

Leading the charge is Corey Lynn Patton Jr., who not only returns as the team's top performer, but also earned SIAC Golfer of the Month in March 2025 after hoisting medalist honors at the LeMoyne-Owen Invitational with a two-round total of 157. Additionally, at the CIAA Southern Division Tournament in early March, Patton Jr. finished second among individual competitors, posting a total of +28 strokes.

Another returner to watch is Felipe Benjamin Guido, whose steady contributions last season and consistency in team competitions have helped anchor the Marauders' lineup.

Joining them are Christian Collins and Patrick Kabera, seasoned returners whose ongoing development adds critical depth and composure to the team.

New Faces to Watch

Coach Ware's new recruits—Jayden Headd, Michael Halleg, Joshua Fiery, Angelino Cooper, and Isaiah Bridges—infuse fresh energy and competitiveness into the squad. As early fall approaches, internal scrimmages and practice rounds will determine how these newcomers mesh with the established core.

Starting Five at the Fall Classic

Central State opens its fall slate at the Malone University Fall Classic, featuring a starting lineup of:

This blend of experience and innovation sets the stage for what should be an exciting season kickoff.

A Program on the Rise

In just two seasons, Coach Will Ware has solidified CSU Golf as one of the most promising programs in the SIAC. His leadership extends beyond the course—he was recently named Coach of the Year at The Rice Group's HBCU Makeda Excellence Awards, recognized for building the program from the ground up while offering underserved Dayton-area students new opportunities in golf.

Looking Ahead

With a returning leader in Patton Jr., the consistency of Guido and others, and dynamic newcomers within striking distance, the Marauders are set to compete at the top of their conference. As the 2025 season unfolds, CSU looks to climb the ranks and cement itself as a SIAC contender.
