Marauders Drop Five-Set Thriller at Lake Erie
Painesville, OH – September 9, 2025 – Central State volleyball battled until the very end, but the Marauders came up just short in a five-set thriller, falling 3–2 on the road to Lake Erie inside the Jerome T. Osborne Center.
After dropping the first two sets (25–16, 25–15), CSU showed tremendous resilience, storming back with a gritty 27–25 win in the third and a 25–23 victory in the fourth to force a decisive fifth set. The comeback effort ran out of steam late, however, as Lake Erie held strong for a 15–6 win in the finale.
Marauder Highlights

Maya Hendricks delivered a career-best performance, hammering down 20 kills while adding 9 digs, 2 blocks, and 22 total points to lead CSU on both ends.

Zahra Coates added 10 kills and a team-high 18 digs, while also leading the service game with 3 aces.

Braelynn Reese was a force at the net with 6 kills and 4 blocks, while Jasmin Churchill matched her with 4 blocks of her own.

Brooke Morris directed the offense with 22 assists and chipped in a service ace and 9 digs.

Johanna Holston anchored the back row with 18 digs.
As a team, the Marauders recorded 45 kills, 44 assists, and 66 digs, pushing Lake Erie (3–1) to the limit in a tightly contested non-conference matchup.
Lake Erie Leaders
The Storm were paced by Nora Larson with 12 kills, while Allison Kirch notched 10 kills and a match-high 20 digs. Setter Jenna Sayles directed the attack with 31 assists.
