Lady Marauders Overcome Slow Start TO Win In Memphis

Lady Marauders Secure Crucial Road Victory Against LeMoyne-Owen College

Memphis, TN — February 8, 2025

The Central State University Lady Marauders pulled off a thrilling 71-68 road victory against the LeMoyne-Owen College Magicians in a pivotal SIAC matchup on Saturday afternoon at Bruce Hall/Johnson Gymnasium.

The win improves Central State's record to 10-10 overall and 8-6 in conference play, keeping their postseason hopes alive. Meanwhile, LeMoyne-Owen falls to 5-17 overall and 2-12 in the SIAC.

First-Half Battle

The game began with LeMoyne-Owen dominating the first quarter, outscoring Central State 23-11. The Magicians capitalized on strong shooting from the free-throw line, hitting 9 of 11 attempts in the opening frame.

However, the Lady Marauders roared back in the second quarter, led by Camryn Nadir's highly efficient offense. Nadir scored 16 points on 7-of-9 shooting from the field. Central State outscored LeMoyne-Owen 23-18 in the quarter, cutting the halftime deficit to seven points, 41-34.

Turning Point

Central State carried their momentum into the second half, particularly in the third quarter, where they outscored the Magicians 19-14. Nadya McCown was pivotal during this stretch, scoring 15 points while making clutch free throws (8-of-11).

The fourth quarter saw the Lady Marauders' defense tighten, holding LeMoyne-Owen to just 13 points. Dashanti Miller's aggressive play in the paint and calmness at the charity stripe (7-of-12) helped seal the victory. Miller finished with 13 points and 5 rebounds off the bench.

LeMoyne-Owen Efforts

Kennedy Fuller led the Magicians with 16 points despite a challenging 4-of-15 shooting performance. Staisha Hamilton added 12 points, including four three-pointers, while Marley Freeman chipped in 10 points and five assists.

Despite shooting only 37.9% from the field, the Magicians managed to stay competitive by forcing 13 turnovers and scoring 13 points off those mistakes.
