Lady Marauders Fall to Spring Hill Despite Strong Effort from Laila Christmon
The Central State Lady Marauders came up short in a hard-fought battle against Spring Hill, falling 55-48 at Beacom/Lewis Gym. Despite a late push in the fourth quarter, the Lady Marauders were unable to overcome offensive struggles, dropping to 10-11 overall and 8-7 in SIAC play.
Le Reve Player of the Game, Laila Christmon, led Central State with 14 points on an efficient 6-of-10 shooting, adding six rebounds and a steal. Camryn Nadir also contributed 14 points and five boards, but the team struggled from beyond the arc, shooting just 22.2% (4-of-18) from three-point range.
Central State started strong, leading 13-9 after the first quarter, but Spring Hill responded with an 18-9 second-quarter surge, taking a five-point lead into halftime. The Badgers continued their momentum in the third, outscoring the Lady Marauders 17-10. While Central State made a late push with a 16-11 fourth quarter, it wasn't enough to erase the deficit.
Spring Hill's Marta Duda dominated inside, posting a double-double with 14 points and 15 rebounds. Laurie Severe added 11 points, including three three-pointers, helping Spring Hill improve to 7-17 on the season.
Despite the loss, Central State showed resilience, forcing 17 turnovers and grabbing 33 rebounds. However, their 32.2% shooting from the field and struggles at the free-throw line (6-of-12) proved costly.
The Lady Marauders will look to bounce back in their next matchup as they continue SIAC play on Monday vs Tuskegee. Monday's game marks senior night for 9 Lady Marauders. Â
