Central State Marauders Secure First Win Under Coach Devin Walker with Sweep of Mount St. Joseph

Cincinnati, OH — February 4, 2025

The Central State University Marauders men's volleyball team notched their first victory of the season and the inaugural win for Head Coach Devin Walker with a decisive 3-0 sweep over Mount St. Joseph. The win, recorded at the Harrington Center in Cincinnati, saw the Marauders take the sets 29-27, 25-23, and 25-21.

Set 1: High-Intensity Battle The opening set was a nail-biter, as both teams fought tooth and nail to gain the upper hand. Central State edged out Mount St. Joseph 29-27 behind clutch plays from Jaedyn Harris and Simon Falayi, who combined for critical kills in the late stages. The Marauders' hitting percentage of .300 was just enough to keep the Lions at bay.

Set 2: Building Momentum The Marauders carried their momentum into the second set, where they showcased greater efficiency, posting a .400 hitting percentage. Strong performances from Toulmin Williams IV and Falayi helped Central State maintain a narrow lead throughout, ultimately securing the set 25-23.

Set 3: Closing It Out Central State's defense stepped up in the final set, holding Mount St. Joseph to a .048 hitting percentage. Benjamin Latham anchored the back row with 16 digs, while Adam Sheppard orchestrated the offense with 21 assists. The Marauders sealed the sweep with a 25-21 win, capping a well-rounded performance.

The Marauders outperformed the Lions in key categories, including hitting percentage (.267 to .151) . 

Coach Walker's First Win This victory marks a significant milestone for Coach Devin Walker, who joined the program this season.

With this win, the Marauders improve to 1-5 on the season and will look to build on this momentum as they continue their schedule this weekend at Maryville and Missouri S&T.
