Marauders Protect Home Court on Senior Night Move into Second in West of SIAC

The Marauders, in need of a key SIAC victory, came up with a senior night celebration with a 75-57 win over Tuskegee.  With the victory the Marauders have moved into second place in the SIAC west. 

The contest started with Raevon Thomas (Detroit, MI ) winning the tip to put the Marauders in scoring position. After two defensive series were constant feet movement and communication stymied the opponent Savion Marshall-Hamilton (Columbus, OH) set a an intimidating pick on the elbow and rolled to the basket for the opening points of the contest. Head Coach Travis Lewis switched between man and his vaunted 1-2-2 half court trap causing 5 turnovers and and eight points off the break. Savion Marshall-Hamilton continued to be a terror in the paint scoring 3 baskets in the paint while also earning two trips to the charity stripe. Both teams began to trade baskets and at the six-minute mark of the first half the Marauders held a 22-20 lead. At this point Coach Lewis urged his team to enter the "Attack Zone" where optimum effort is given on both ends of the court to close out the half.
The flurry of "Attack Zone" scoring started off with Javante Randle (Detroit MI) getting a steal and layup. Steven Key II then made an acrobatic driving layup from behind the arc increasing the lead to 26-21. Khalil Luster (Lima, OH) then broke the will of the opponent with a deep three pointer from Beaver Creek. Brandon Scott (Hammond, IN) added another shot from downtown giving the Marauders a 32-21 lead. Steven Key II (Cleveland, OH) then scored an electric reverse layup on the baseline taking the Marauders lead to 34-24. The Marauders completed their "Attack Zone" scoring streak with the offense setting up in a 1-4 high and running the Globetrotter weave dumping the ball down low to Javante Randle (Detroit, MI) to close out the half for the Marauders with a 42-29 lead.
 
The Mighty Marauders started the second half attacking the rim in the paint with Steven Key II (Cleveland, OH) making another athletic layup and Savion Marshall Hamilton continuing to be a presence in the paint scoring two free throws taking the lead to 46-32. . The Marauders held their biggest lead of the game by 15 points at the 19-minute mark of the second half.  Steven Key II (Cleveland, OH) continued the scoring driving to the basket at the 14:30 mark scoring a lay-up taking the lead to 49-38.  Javante Randle (Detroit, MI) kept the Marauders lead to eleven, adding a layup at the 10-minute mark making the score 57-46. Javante Randle showed great enthusiasm throughout the game culminating with a emphatic block under the paint maintaining the Marauders eleven point lead.

At the eight-minute mark of the second half the opponent cut the lead to 59-52 to which the Marauders responded with another trip to the charity stripe of a Steven Key II shot attempt.  The Marauders brought their "Attack Zone "effort to the defensive end in the second half holding the opposition to a dismal 33% behind the arc. With lead whittled down to 63-56 at the four-minute mark of the contest the Marauders turned up the defense enticing the opponent into a turnover which lead to a thunder dunk from Savion Marshall Hamilton giving the Marauders a 65-56 lead with three minutes and thirty seconds left in the contest.
Raevon Thomas (Detroit MI) hit a three pointer with two minutes left in the game taking the Marauders lead to 69-56. Steven Key II added a free throw at the one minute mark taking the lead to 70-56.
 Closing out the game the Marauder Band and fans brought out their keys ushering the opponent to the motor coach. Ibrahima Jorjou (Casamance, Senegal) skied high in the air to catch a lob dunk yet was fouled and made both free throws. Ibrahima Jorjou was not finished as he brought the crowd to their feet closing out the game with a three pointer. With a final score of 75-57 the Marauders increased their record to 14-11 and 9-8 in conference play. Leading scorers for the Marauders were Steven Key II with 18 points, Savion Marshall-Hamilton with 15 points, and Javante Randle with 10 points respectively. The Mighty Marauders next take the court on Saturday February 22 in the cozy confines of Beacom-Lewis Gymnasium at 3 pm where archrival Kentucky State University comes into Wilberforce.
