Marauders Rally Past Lane for Road Victory
JACKSON, Tenn. – October 31, 2025 — The Central State University volleyball team capped off the regular season with a strong four-set road victory over Lane College on Thursday evening, winning by scores of 16–25, 25–16, 25–19, and 25–18 inside J.F. Lane Gymnasium.
After a slow start in the opening set, the Marauders (11–10, 8–7 SIAC) found their rhythm behind balanced offensive play and a dominant defensive effort, winning three straight sets to secure the 3–1 conference win.
Balanced Attack Leads the Way
Central State produced 40 total kills on the night while holding Lane to just 27 kills and a .000 team hitting percentage. The Marauders' offensive trio of Maya Hendricks and Zahra Coates led the way with 10 kills apiece, while Braelynn Reese added 8. Setter Nevaeh Brownlee continued her efficient playmaking, tallying 26 assists and adding an ace.
Defensive Effort Seals the Win
CSU's defense was equally impressive, recording 65 digs to Lane's 49. Johanna Holston anchored the back row with 16 digs, while Hendricks (12) and Coates (9) helped keep rallies alive throughout the match. At the net, Jasmin Churchill led the block with 3 total, while Brianna Jones added one more to round out a solid team effort.
Turning Point
After dropping the first set 25–16, Central State responded with a 25–16 win in the second, fueled by efficient hitting (.222) and aggressive serving that produced six total aces on the night. The Marauders controlled tempo the rest of the way, taking advantage of Lane errors and timely kills to close out the third and fourth sets with confidence.
