Hollywood, sage, and tarot cards have all been known as inhibitors for those who want to practice magic. None of these incantations nor devices assisted the Lady Magicians of Lemoyne-Owen College as they were stripped of their out of world abilities. With a final score of 68 to 52 Coach Annitra Cole and her Lady Marauders put together one of their most complete games of the year.
Like the artic northeastern winds, we have been facing the Lady Marauders started the first half cold on the offensive end shooting 11 percent from the field and missing all eight shots from behind the arc. The visitors established their biggest lead of the game, going up by seven within the first two minutes of the game before their magic was extinguished. Noticing the opponent wanted to control the paint and score using a mid- range game, Coach Cole dipped into her "James Bond" survival kit employing an amoeba 1-2-2 and 2-3 defense to stymie the opponent. Using her speed lineup with
Laila Christmon (Cincinnati, OH) playing the 5 positions from baseline to wing all shots were contested. Coach Cole and her team were able to put the opponent in positions the rest of the game reducing their shooting percentage from 33% to 9 % before halftime.
The 3
rd quarter saw the Lady Marauders control the game shooting 44%f rom the field and going a perfect 5 for 5 from the charity stripe. Makayla Williams (Dayton, OH) made several baskets gliding through the defense for tough layups while showing her mid-range jump shot. Makayla Williams finished the game with 11 points, going 5 for 9 from the field and making her lone 3 point shot.
Dashanti Miller (Sandusky, OH) controlled the offensive and defensive boards getting 7 rebounds and consistent trips to the foul line making 6 of 7 of her free throws. Player of the game
Laila Christmon (Cincinnati, OH) matched her efforts with eight rebounds while going perfect from the free throw line. Christmon also went 50% from the field and was a defensive stalwart using her ability to shuffle her feet and extend her arms into passing lanes.
Zhieyah Rolack (Dayton, OH) also contributed 12 points and 6 rebounds. The Rolack, Crhistmon , Miller connection worked wonders for the Lady Marauders this afternoon as all three post players used their athleticism and size to hamper the opponents defensive plans. Moving forward in conference play this three headed trio along with
Jacquel Bronaugh (Dayton, OH) should be proverbial powers in the paint. The Lady Marauders next travel to Louisville, Kentucky to face Simmons College on January 29 at 5 pm. Â
