Kentucky State beats Central State, 100-80

FRANKFORT, Kentucky – The Central State Marauders lost to rival Kentucky State, 100-80, on Saturday.

The loss drops CSU to 5-18 overall and 5-13 in the SIAC. KSU improves to 11-9 on the year and 10-7 in the conference.

KSU led by as many as 15 in the first half and held a 45-34 lead at intermission. The Thorobreds extended their lead to 20 on a Jay Murrel three-pointer. CSU responded by making nine of its next 11 shots which included three pointers from
Marcus Scott V and
Willie Jackson. With the CSU guards hitting from outside, CSU pulled to within six points with 8:20 remaining.

KSU scored the next six points to go back up by double-figures. CSU managed just four made field goals on 16 attempts in the final eight minutes as the KSU lead continued to balloon. Two late free throws by Brandon Hill put the Thorobreds at the century mark for the game as KSU celebrated a 20-point win.

Rebounding contributed to CSU's struggles. KSU totaled 55 rebounds with 18 coming offensively. CSU managaed just two offensive rebounds and total rebounds for the game. With the efforts on the glass, KSU outscored CSU, 22-4, in second chance points.

Scott V led CSU with a game-high 23 points.
Antwoin Reed, Jr. finished with 21 points and five rebounds.

Six KSU players scored in double-figures. Montrell Jacobs paced KSU with 18 points

CSU will return home to play Wilberforce on Tuesday night.
