Central State sacked by Miles in 34-14 loss

Marauders sacked in 34-14 loss to Miles

WILBERFORCE, Ohio – The Central State Marauders lost at home to Miles College on Saturday, 34-14.

CSU quarterbacks were sacked a total of eight times throughout the afternoon while the Marauder offense managed to find the endzone just once midway through the first quarter.

The loss drops the Marauders to 1-3 overall and 0-1 in SIAC play while MC improves to 1-3 on the year and 1-0 in the conference.

On CSU's only touchdown drive, the Marauders used nine plays to travel 80 yards capped off by a Twon Hines touchdown catch from 12 yards out at the 8:55 mark of the first quarter. MC responded on the next possession with an 84 yard drive with Zarious Keyes scoring on a four-yard run. After a CSU miss-played snap while in punt formation, the MC offense took over on the CSU 27-yard line. MC scored seven plays later as Tahj Lee crossed the goal line from one-yard out. A bad snap on CSU's next punt attempt resulted in another giveaway to Miles. Starting at the CSU 39-yard line, MC took advantage of the great field position as quarterback Jacob Keller found Marcus Lodge for a seven-yard touchdown pass with 10:20 left in the half.

Miles took control midway through the third quarter with a 51-yard drive ending with a two-yard score by Keyes. After a missed extra point, MC led by 20 with 7:40 left in the third quarter. CSU narrowed the deficit when linebacker Jalil Lenore intercepted the ball and went the other way for a 68-yard touchdown with a 1:37 remaining in the quarter. Any chance of CSU capturing momentum was halted by the Marauders' three lost fumbles in the second half. On the last giveaway, quarterback Kendall Boney was stripped of the ball. Roosevelt Thompson recovered the loose football for Miles and ran 30-yards for the final score of the afternoon as MC went on to earn its first win of 2022.
