Second half struggles for CSU in loss to Miles
WILBERFORCE, Ohio - The Central State Marauders dropped their ninth straight contest in a 61-37 loss to Miles on Saturday
After playing to a 26-26 tie at half, CSU shooters went cold in the second half while MC picked up the defensive intensity. The Marauders were held scoreless in the first nine minutes of the second half while Miles build their lead to a comfortable 20-point margin and eventaully cruised to victory. In their second half shooting challenges, CSU managed to make just four of 25 shot attempts.
MC was methodical in their second half offense, effectively controlling the clock while committing only nine turnovers to the Marauders' 18 giveaways. MC made 25 of 58 shot attempts (43.1%) while CSU was 15 of 49 from the field (30.6%).
Anthony Fairley led MC with 15 points and nine rebounds. Yasim Hooker added 13 points and 11 rebounds.
No CSU player managed to score in double-figures.
Jovon Jones finished with nine points while
Brad Lewis grabbed a season-high 15 rebounds.
The loss drops CSU to 6-18 overall and 3-15Â in the SIAC. MC, who is ranked regionally and received votes in the most recent NCAA Div. II national poll, improves to 22-3 on the year and 16-1 in the SIAC.
CSU finishes up the regular season at home on Wednesday against Bluefield State.
