Last second shot off the mark as Central State falls to Lincoln, 81-78

Last second shot bounces off the back of rim as Marauders fall to Lincoln (CA), 81-78


WILBERFORCE, Ohio - In a back-and-forth contest, a last second half court shot by Marcus Scott V bounced off the back of the rim as CSU dropped its third straight game.


The loss drops the Marauders to 2-5 overall while the Oaklanders improved to 3-5 on the season.


The Marauders led by as many as seven in the first half fueled by 17 points by Kevin Moore in the first 20 minutes of play. A 9-0 run by LU midway through the half quickly distinguished the CSU lead and the Gary Payton coached Oaklanders took a 41-38 lead into the break. 


LU extended its lead to eight by the 15:42 mark of the second half. The Marauders methodically chopped away at the lead. An 11-2 CSU run capped off by a Marcus Scott V three-point play and a layup by Key'saun Key put the Marauders up, 60-57, with 10 minutes left. CSU maintained a one possession lead and remained up, 74-71, with 3:20 left in the game.CSU made two of six field goals down the stretch with two turnovers and a missed free throw while LU closed the game making three of six shots and three of four free throws. After a good free throw by Agjanti Miller have LU a three point lead with two seconds left, CSU's Scott V was forced to put up a half court shot which was a touch to strong as the ball hit off the back iron as time expired.



Melvin Ely led LU with a game-high 26 points. Miller scored 25 points. Goodnews Kpegeol record 14 points and 11 rebounds in the win.


CSU was paced by Willie Jackson's 18 points and 4 assists. Moore finished with 17 points Scott V recorded 16 points and eight rebounds. Ibrahima Jarjou chipped in with 10 points and seven rebounds.


LU turned the ball away just six times while CSU recorded 14 giveaways. LU held in a 15-6 edge in points scored off turnovers and a 12-2 advantage in fast break points.


CSU returns to action at home on Thursday against Albany State.

LU's six turnovers is the fewest a team has recorded against CSU this season.

Moore's 17 points is a new-season high.

Monday was CSU's third straight loss.

Basketball Hall of Famer Gary Payton serves as LU's head coach.
