Lady Marauders beat Fort Valley State in five sets for first win of 2022

Frankfort, Kentucky - The Central State Lady Marauders won their first match of the season with a five set victory over Fort Valley State on Saturday.

FVSU won the first set, 25-22, and the third set, 25-20. CSU took the second set, 25-22, and cruised to a 25-12 fourth set win. In a back and forth deciding set, CSU outlasted FVSU, 16-14.

Darryn Hughes led CSU with nine kills. Tyra Barber and Derae Grimes each finished with eight kills. Kayla Adams accounted for 35 assists.

Grimes also tallied a match-high seven blocks while Barber recorded 19 digs.

CSU attackers combined for 48 kills on 169 attacks with 16 errors. FVSU recorded 55 kills on 187 attacks with 37 errors.

CSU will be back in action on Thursday on the road against LeMoyne-Owen.
