Marauders still in search of first win after losses to McKendree and Lindenwood
Competing in the SIAC inaugural men's volleyball season, the Central State Marauders continue to be in search of their first victory with the latest losses coming to perennial power McKendree and Lindenwood over the weekend.
The losses drop CSU to 0-5 overall.
McKendree, ranked No. 14 in the AVCA Div. I - II Coaches poll, dropped the Marauders in three sets with scores of 25-17, 25-11 and 25-14. The Marauders struggled with consistency, recording 18 kills and comitting 16 attacking errors. McKendree finished the match with 32 kills to 12 errors while also tallying 14 blocks compared to CSU's one block. For CSU, Friday was the third loss to a national ranked team this season (Ohio State - Jan. 7 & Jan. 8).
Cameron Lee and
D'Aaron McCraney led the Marauders offensively with five kills each. Patrick Ross led McKendree with 8 kills. Two other MU players finished with 7 kills each.
The Marauders lost in straight sets to Lindenwood on Saturday with scores of 25-20, 25-23, and 25-16.
CSU hitters combined for 21 kills and 15 errors on 73 attacks for a hitting percentage of .082. LU faired better offensively with 34 kills and 14 errors on 76 attacks for a hitting percentage of .263.
Yaron Afek led the Marauder attack with 10 kills while
Marcus Franck distributed 17 assists.
LU was paced by 11 kills from AJ Lewis and 20 assists from Connor Sheehan.
CSU will try to earn its first victory at home on Wednesday against Wiitenberg University at 7 pm.
