Lady Marauders go 1-1 in Friday's conference matches against Lane and Kentucky State

WILBERFORCE, Ohio – The Central State Lady Marauders beat Lane College and lost to Kentucky State University on Friday.

CSU opened Friday morning's tri-match with a 3-0 win over Lane College. CSU cruised to a three-set victory with scores of 25-8, 25-14 and 25-20.

In a one-sided first set, CSU's offense was facilitated by freshman setter
Makayla Alia's 17 assists while the CSU attack combined for 19 kills and a .552 hitting percentage to coast to the 17-point win.

CSU jumped out to an early lead in the second stanza as
Jazmyne Walker and
Ajanae' Cressey recorded five kills each in the eventual 25-14 win.

Lane jumped out to a 6-2 lead early in the third before CSU battled back to tie up the set, 11-11. Kills by Walker,
Kayla Adams and
Megan Meyer helped CSU build a four-point lead. LC fought back late to narrow the CSU lead down, 22-20. Two LC errors and a match ending kill by CSU's Walker closed out the early morning match in favor of the Lady Marauders as CSU improved to 15-6 and 11-2 in conference play.

Walker led CSU with a match-high 17 kills, a .552 hitting percentage to go along with 10 digs. Cressey finished with 11 kills and
Megan Meyer had 10 kills. In addition to Alia's 17 assists in the opening set,
Kayla Adams added 20 assists playing as CSU's primary setter in the second and third set.

In CSU's second match against Kentucky State, CSU jumped out to an early lead as back-to-back services aces by
Kamille Austin put the Lady Marauders up 9-5. KSU answered with a 6-1 run to go up by one and the teams went back and forth until CSU rattled four straight points to take a 22-18 lead. Two kills by Walker along with a KSU service error gave CSU the set, 25-21.

Up 16-15 in the second set, KSU took five of the next six points to go up 21-16. Robin Poole recorded three straight kills to help KSU close out the set, 25-20.

CSU built a 14-6 lead in the third set but allowed the Thorobreds to creep back into contention. Serving for the set point with a 24-21 lead, CSU surrendered the next five points to lose 26-24.
KSU edged the Lady Marauders again in the fourth set. With the score knotted 22-22, a kill by Abrielle Jordan and two CSU attacking errors gave KSU the match, 3-1.

Walker led CSU with 21 kills in the afternoon match but a season-high 33 errors proved to be too much for CSU to overcome. KSU, which improves to 17-9 on the year and 15-2 in conference play, was led by Poole's 13 kills.

With the Friday split, CSU is now 15-7 overall and 11-3 in SIAC play. CSU travels to Ursuline on Tuesday at 6 pm.
