Marauders hang on to win on senior night

Marauders hang on to beat Bluefield State on senior night
 

WILBERFORCE, Ohio – The Central State Marauders hung on late to beat Bluefield State, 72-70, on Monday night.
 

With the win, CSU finished the regular season with a 16-12 overall record. BSU falls to 11-14 on the year.
 
 
After honoring senior members of the team during pregame, the Marauders refocused on the competition as junior guard Orion Monford scored 15 points while senior big man Dreon Lewis added 12 in the first half to give CSU a 39-30 lead at the break.
 
 
Momentum shifted as Bluefield State opened the second half on 13-4 run to tie the score, 43-43. CSU bounced back with a 11-2 run to go up by nine with 10:33 to play. The Marauders appeared to be in full control with a 72-62 lead with 2:06 to play. BSU hit two three pointers and a jumper to cut the deficit down to two. With four seconds left, CSU came up with the deciding defensive stop to win the game.
 
 
Monford finished with a season-high 21 points. Lewis recorded a double-double with 18 points and 12 rebounds. Darweshi Hunter added 16 points, two steals and two blocks.
 
 
BSU was paced bu Zhahidi Robinson's 14 points and four assists.
 
 
 
 
CSU will travel to Rock Hill, South Carolina for next week's SIAC Tournament. CSU opens tournament play on Tuesday morning against Fort Valley State at 10 am.

Central State has secured a third seed in next month's SIAC Tournament and will play next Tuesday at 10 am in Rock Hill, South Carolina.
 
 
SIAC All-Conference selections will be announced on Sunday.
 
 
CSU's second leading scorer Harris Brown sat out of Friday night's game. Brown is expected back in the lineup for next week's SIAC Tournament.
 
 
With the win, CSU has finished the regular season with a 10-game improvement from last year's record.

The Marauders will begin SIAC Tournament play at 10 am on Tuesday against Fort Valley State in Rock Hill, South Carolina.
