Lady Marauders earn crucial road win over Lane

 
JACKSON, Tennessee – The Central State Lady Marauders earned a much needed 71-51 road win over Lane on Tuesday night.



With the win, the Lady Marauders are now 12-15 overall while finishing with a 10-8 record in the SIAC to secure a third seed in next month's conference tournament.
 
 
After a low scoring first half, CSU led 27-25 at half. The Lady Marauders pulled away in the third quarter, going 10 of 18 from the field to take a 54-38 lead into the final 10 minutes of play.
 
 
CSU stretched its lead to as many as 22 in the fourth period and cruised to the 20-point victory.
 
 
CSU held LC shooters to 28.1% (18-64) from the field. The Lady Marauders shot 41.3% (26-63). The CSU bench outscored the LC reserves, 23-2.
 
 
CSU senior guard Takyra Gilbert led all players with 18 points and seven assists. Alexus Shirrells added 12 points. Tamara Olverson led the CSU bench with 11 points and six rebounds.
 
 
Alexis Harris led LC with 15 points.
 
 
CSU will conclude the regular season at home on Friday against Bluefield State.

With the win, CSU sweeps the regular season series against LC, 2-0.


With 18 points on Tuesday night, Gilbert is nine points away from her 1000^th point as a Lady Marauder.


Pending SIAC tiebreaking scenarios, CSU will be a two or three seed entering next week's SIAC Tournament. The official seeding and tournament bracket will be released on Friday.
 
 
Gilbert has played in 445 consecutive minutes (eleven straight games) without subbing.

 
This year's SIAC Tournament will be played at the Rock Hill Sports & Events Center in Rock Hill, South Carolina.

The Lady Marauders host Bluefield State on Friday at 5:30 pm. CSU will honor its senior student-athletes throughout the night. Admission to the game is free.
