Former Central State star Erik Williams inducted into Black College Football Hall of Fame

 
ATLANTA, Georgia - Central State gridiron great Erik Williams added another tremendous achievement to his long list of accolades on Saturday when the he was inducted into the Black College Football Hall of Fame (BCFHOF).
 
 
Williams is one of six inductees enshrined into the BCFHOF during Saturday night's induction ceremony in Atlanta, Georgia.
 
 
"I am very proud and humbled to be part of the Black College Football Hall of Fame," Williams said during Saturday night's induction. "As I look around, I see a group of players and coaches that have revolutionized the game of football. To be part of this group is something that I will cherish and remember for the rest of my life. I am eternally grateful to Central State and to the Black College Football Hall of Fame."
 
 
A product of Bartram High School in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, Williams only significant scholarship offer came from Central State. Coached by the legendary Hall of Famer Billy Joe, Williams developed into an All-American offensive lineman. With Williams leading the charge upfront from 1987 through 1990, CSU won a total of 41 games with just seven losses and one tie. Williams paved the way for the record setting Central State offense as the team claimed their first NAIA title in 1990. On their march toward the title, the Marauders set NAIA Div. I records by scoring 594 points (54.8 ppg) and averaging 492 yards of offense. The Marauders defeated opponents by an average point margin of 37.5 per game.
 
 
Williams was selected by the Dallas Cowboys in the third round of the 1991 NFL Draft. He played for the Cowboys from 1991-2000. He was a four-time Pro Bowl selection and a three-time All-Pro. As a key member of the Dallas offensive line, Williams hoisted the Lombardi Trophy three times (Super Bowl XXVII, XXVIII, XXX).
 
 
 
Williams is one of three representatives from Central State University to join the Black College Football Hall of Fame, joining his former coach Billy Joe and teammate Hugh Douglas.
 
 
The Class of 2020 also included Earl "Air" Harvey (North Carolina Central), James Hunter (Grambling State), Robert Mathis (Alabama A&M), Coach Joe Taylor (Howard, Hampton, FAMU, Virginia Union), and Commissioner Dennis Thomas (MEAC).
 
 
Votes were tallied from the 12-member Selection Committee, comprised of prominent journalists, commentators and historians, as well as former NFL general managers and executives, and from previous BCFHOF inductees to determine this year's inductees.
 
 
The inductees will also be recognized at the Black College Football Hall of Fame Classic in Canton, Ohio on Sept. 6.
