Lady Marauders edged by Tuskegee, 84-78

TUSKEGEE, Alabama – The Central State Lady Marauders lost a hard fought battle to Tuskegee, 84-78, on Saturday afternoon.

The Loss drops the Lady Marauders to 7-12 overall with a 5-6 record in the SIAC. Tuskegee improves to 12-8 on the season with a 8-3 conference record.

TU led by as many as five in the first quarter before CSU went on a 8-2 run to take a 16-15 lead into the second period. CSU stayed ahead for the majority of the second quarter, building their lead to as many as seven before take a 38-34 lead into the intermission.
Up by nine, CSU surrendered a 9-2 run midway through the third quarter. TU took the lead on a India Blakely layup at the 2:31 mark and remained ahead, 59-57, entering the final 10 minutes of play.
Back-to-back three pointers by Shania Kelly helped CSU jump back ahead, 63-61, early in the fourth quarter. With CSU up by five with 5:38 to play after a three-point play by Sandra Guilford, momentum shifted as the Tigers mounted a 10-2 run to take a 75-72 lead with 3:18 left. CSU evened the score, 75-75, on a Alexus Shirrells three-pointer but TU responded with three straight baskets to take control, 81-75, with 35 seconds to play. Late free throws by Blakely helped seal the six-point victory for TU.
TU was led by a pair of 20-point scorers in Shelle Daniels and Ashaila Jackson. Daniels finished with 24 points, seven rebounds and four steals. Jackson recorded 22 points and 11 rebounds. Blakely finished with 17 points and 12 rebounds.
All five CSU starters scored in double-figures in the loss. Takyra Gilbert led CSU with 17 points and four assists. Sandra Guilford added 16 points and Shirrells chipped in with 15. Cameryn DuBose and Kelly each scored 11 points. DuBose also grabbed a season-high 14 rebounds on her way to ger first double-double of the season.
CSU will play at Spring Hill on Monday night.
