MEMPHIS, Tennessee – The Central State Marauders built a double-digit lead and held on late to defeat LeMoyne-Owen, 84-79, on Saturday.

With the win CSU climbs over .500 with an 9-8 record and improve to 6-4 in SIAC play. LOC falls to 10-7 overall with a 6-5 record in the conference.

Senior forward
Dreon Lewis scored nine points in the first 10 minutes of play to help CSU jump out to a 16-13 lead. CSU gained separation with a 8-2 run capped off by baskets from
Harris Brown and
Darweshi Hunter to give the Marauders a 36-24 lead. At the half, CSU remained in control, 38-29.

Led by the trio of Hunter, Brown and Lewis, CSU build a 17 point lead with 13 minutes to go. Sparked by back-to-back makes from Devin Booker, LOC jumped back into contention with a 21-4 run. A dunk by JaQuan Lawrence brought LOC all the way back, 65-65, with 6:53 to play.

Brown and
Tom Johnson helped turn things around for CSU. Johnson broke CSU's scoring drought with a good drive to the basket. Johnson came up with a steal on LOC's next possession found Brown for an open fastbreak basket. Johnson scored again in the pain of CSU's next offensive trip and Brown knocked down a three-pointer to put CSU back up by nine, 76-67, with 3:58 to play.

After the final media timeout, LOC marched back with a 8-0 run to cut the deficit down to one with 1:48 to play. Brown knocked down his third three-pointer of the half to put CSU up by four.

CSU came up with three defensive stops and converted its final four free throws in the final 90 seconds to seal the road win.

CSU made 33 of 69 shot attempts (47.8%). After missing all nine three-point attempts in first half, CSU bounced back to make seven of 10 attempts in the second half and finished seven of 19 for the game (36.8%). LOC was 31 for 70 from the field (44.3%) and made four of 18 three-point attempts (22.2%).

Hunter and Brown led CSU scorers with 23 points each. Lewis finished with 16 points and seven rebounds. Johnson chipped in with eight points, six assists and six rebounds.

Booker led LOC with 26 points, 12 rebounds and five assists.
