ALBANY, Georgia – The Central State volleyball team concludes the 2019 SIAC Crossover with a 3-0 win over Fort Valley State on Friday.

 
Trailing 20-19 in the opening set, CSU freshman Diamond Lester recorded a kill to spark a 6-0 run for the Lady Marauders. Fellow freshman Cormaria Cooksey served two aces down the stretch as CSU took the first frame, 25-20.

 
CSU kept the momentum in the second set, leading by as many as eight (21-13). Kills by Deja Clark and Desiree Howard closed the second set in favor of the Lady Marauders, 25-20.

 
Jade Simmons started the third set on a high note, recording a kill and two service aces while Cooksey added three early kills as CSU jumped out to an 11-3 lead. FVSU responded as Kawonica Ridley served the Wildcats to a 10-0 run to take a 13-11 edge. CSU regained its focus and control of the set thanks to a 7-1 run capped off by a Cooksey ace and Simmons kill to go up 19-14. Four FVSU errors and kills by Howard and Clark sealed the victory for CSU.

 
Clark led CSU with 11 kills and 14 digs. Cooksey finished with eight kills and nine digs.

 
CSU went 4-2 overall during the six-match SIAC Crossover, marking the first time the school has finished .500 or better at a conference round-up/crossover.

 
Clark, who leads CSU in kills and hitting percentage this season, recorded 79 kills during Thursday and Friday's matches. Cooksey also put together her best stretch of games this season, totaling 47 kills and 66 digs during the two-day span.

 
With the victory, CSU improves to 6-10 overall with a 6-5 record in SIAC play.

 
CSU will host UC-Clermont on Wednesday at 7 pm.
