Lady Marauders end regular season with 62-52 win over Miles


WILBERFORCE, Ohio – In the final game of the 2018-2019 regular season, the Central State Lady Marauders topped Miles College, 62-52, on Monday night.


With the win, the Lady Marauders end the season with a 10-16 overall mark and a 7-10 record in the SIAC. MC falls to 16-9 on the year with a 9-8 ledger in conference play.
 

Taking a 16-15 lead into the second quarter, CSU struggled from the field in the final 10 minutes of the opening half. CSU totaled just eight points while making just two of 13 shot attempts and trailed MC, 32-24, at the half.

 
The Lady Marauders regained momentum with a 10-0 run early in the third quarter. Two free throws by Jaeda Davis gave CSU a 35-34 lead at the 5:28 mark. CSU led by as many as four in the quarter but MC answered by going on a 6-0 run to end the period up 44-42.

 
CSU took control of the game in the fourth quarter. Sparked by baskets from Daesjah Ely, CSU opened the fourth on a 7-0 run. Leading 50-48 at the 4:25 mark, Chervelle Cox and Falon Edwards each recorded four points to lead the CSU on a 8-0 run. Up by 10, the CSU defense closed the game out by holding MC without a field goal in the final 1:30 to help seal the 10-point victory.

 
CSU forced MC into 30 turnovers, outscoring the Golden Bears, 30-16, off of giveaways.

 
Davis led CSU with 15 points. Edwards recorded 14 points, six rebounds and five steals. Ely scored 13 points and Cox contributed 10 points in the victory.

 
Miles was paced by 16 points from Victoria Sutton.

 
The Lady Marauders will prepare for the SIAC Tournament held in Birmingham, Alabama next week. Tournament seeding and scheduling will be announced later this week.

CSU currently has four players averaging double-figures in scoring (Gilbert, Davis, Edwards, Cox)
 
CSU seniors Jaeda Davis, Chervelle Cox and Falon Edwards played their final game in Beacom/Lewis Gymnasium on Monday.
 
Edwards appeared in her 100th career game as a Marauder on Monday.
 
CSU currently sits in sixth place in the SIAC West Division standings.
