Lady Marauders struggle from the field in loss to Tuskegee


WILBERFORCE, Ohio – The Central State Lady Marauders converted just 30% of their shot attempts in a 70-62 loss to Tuskegee on Saturday.
 

With the latest loss, CSU falls to 9-16 overall with a 6-10 mark in conference play. Clinching the SIAC West Division title, Tuskegee improves to 18-6 on the year with a 13-3 ledger in the SIAC.
 

In addition to the shooting woes, the Lady Marauders committed 18 turnovers while the coaching staff managed foul trouble issues throughout the second half. Trailing by six, Daesjah Ely, who was the only CSU player to shot over 50% from the field (4-7),  fouled out  with three minutes remaining. TU successfully closed out the game by making eight of 10 free throws while taking care of the ball on their way to the eight-point victory.


CSU surrendered 25 points off turnovers, while also being outscored in second chance points (12-8) and points in the paint (34-32).


TU's Jade Wilson led all scorers with 18 points and seven rebounds while Alexis Carter added 17 points and pulled down 16 rebounds for her 11th double-double of the season. Normesha Pitts chipped in 14 points for the Golden Tigers.
 
Jaeda Davis and Takyra Gilberst led CSU scoring 12 points each, but struggled to a combined 9 for 36 shooting performance from the field. Chervelle Cox finished with her ninth double-double of the year with 10 points and 13 rebounds. Ely finished with 11 points in limited action.


The Lady Marauders will conclude the regular season at home on Monday against Miles College.
 

NOTES

CSU honored its three departing seniors in Jaeda Davis, Chervell Cox and Falon Edwards during pre-game of the Saturday's men's basketball game.


CSU has lost all six games in which it has shot 30% or worse from the field this season.


CSU will head to Birmingham, Alabama on Feb. 25 for the SIAC Tournament.
