Box Score Marauders falter down stretch in overtime loss to Fort Valley State

FORT VALLEY, Georgia – The Central State Marauders had their three-game winning streak snapped in a 87-82 overtime road loss to Fort Valley State on Wednesday.

The loss drops CSU to 4-3 overall with a 1-1 mark in SIAC play. FVSU improves to 3-6 on the season with a 1-1 conference record.

CSU played an efficient opening half of basketball. The Marauders made 17 of 35 field goals as freshman
Darweshi Hunter led scorers with 13 points. Guard
Tom Johnson distributed six assists while committing zero turnovers as CSU took a 43-38 lead at intermission.

CSU maintained the momentum. A three-point play by
Harris Brown gave the Marauders a 74-63 lead with 5:42 to play. Up by 11, CSU surrendered a 14-3 run in the final five minutes of regulation. During the five minute span, CSU made one of five field goal attempts, one of three free throws and turned the ball over twice. A good jumper at the buzzer by FVSU's Tristan Davis sent the game in overtime.

Baskets by Johnson and
Keandre Graves gave CSU a 82-79 lead early in the extra period but the Marauders missed their final seven shots as FVSU closed the game on a 8-0 run.
FVSU corralled 13 offensive rebounds to CSU's seven and took advantage in second chance points with a 15-8 advantage. FVSU also outscored CSU, 23-10, in points off turnovers.
All five FVSU starters scored in double-figures on Wednesday. George Holloway led all FVSU players with 17 points and nine rebounds.
Hunter led CSU with 20 points, seven rebounds and four assists.
Quinton Glaspie added 14 points and six rebounds.
Harris Brown came off the bench to finish with 11 points. Johnson led all players with nine assists as the senior edges closer to the 400 career assists milestone.
