Lady Marauders fall to Benedict, 83-63
 

WILBERFORCE, Ohio – The three-pointer proved to be the difference as the Central State Lady Marauders fell to Benedict, 83-63, on Saturday.
 
 
CSU falls to 2-9 overall and 0-3 in the SIAC while BC improves to 7-2 on the season with a 2-1 mark in conference play.



BC shooters combined to make 15 shots from three-point range while CSU made just five from beyond the arc.

 
After opening the game on a 7-2 run, CSU surrendered a 9-2 run to BC and trailed, 20-16, after the first quarter. CSU kept within striking distance in the first half thanks to Shania Kelly's 12 points as the Lady Marauders trailed by just six at the half.

 
Benedict seized control of the game midway through the third quarter. Perimeter shots by Ay'Anna Bey and Ayanna Armstead helped BC extend their lead to 15 entering the final 10 minutes of play.



BC led by as many as 24 in the fourth quarter and cruised to the 20-point victory.



Bey finished with 21 points and 13 rebounds to lead BC. Armstead also scored 21 points by way of a seven for 13 performance from three-point range.



Alexus Shirrells led CSU with 14 points. Kelly and Sandra Guilford each finished with 13 points.

 
CSU will try to snap a seven-game losing streak on Monday against Paine.

CSU welcomed the surrounding community to Saturday's game free of charge. Community leaders from the City of Xenia and Greene County will be involved in the women's game and men's game throughout the afternoon. City of Xenia Mayor Sarah Mays served as honorary coach.
 
 
Saturday's game is the first of 12 straight conference contests for CSU.
 
 
BC is currently ranked No. 10 in the D2SIDA South Region Poll.
 
 
Seven of CSU's 11 opponents currently have winning records. BC was the sixth team CSU has played with two or fewer losses.
 
 
CSU was without leading scorer Brooke Spaulding due to injury.
