Lady Marauders down Paine for first SIAC win of season

Lady Marauders cruise to 81-58 win over Paine
 

WILBERFORCE, Ohio – The Central State Lady Marauders won their first SIAC contest of the season with a convincing 81-58 win over Paine College on Monday night.
 
 
With the win, CSU improves to 3-9 overall with a 1-3 ledger in the SIAC. PC falls to 4-6 on the year with a 3-1 conference record.



CSU jumped out a 23-10 lead after the first quarter and never looked back. Behind the scoring of Tamara Olverson, Sandra Guilford and Alexus Shirrells, CSU widened the margin to 25 by halftime with a 45-20 lead. Olverson went six-for-eight from the field for 13 first half points. Guilford also made six of eight shots for 12 points. Shirrells scored 10 points to help CSU to its highest scoring first half of the season.
 
 
CSU led by as many as 29 in the second half and cruised to the victory as every Lady Marauder who logged minutes managed to score.
 
 
CSU tied a season-high by converting 50% of their shot attempts (25-50). CSU also recorded season-highs in assists (24) and steals (15). PC turned the ball over 24 times. CSU held a 33-8 edge in points off turnovers.
 
 
Guilford finished with a career-high 18 points along with nine rebounds, three assists and four steals. Shirrells finished with season-highs in points (17) and assists (6). Takyra Gilbert distributed 10 assists and added 11 points. Olverson and Camryn DuBose anchored the CSU frontcourt with 13 points each.



Keondra Archie paced Paine's efforts with 15 points.

 
CSU will travel to play at Albany State on Saturday.
