Cedarville comes back from 20 down to beat Central State

WILBERFORCE, Ohio – The Central State Marauders surrendered a 20-point lead in the second half and eventual fell to Cedarville, 83-75, in overtime.

With the loss, CSU is now 1-2 overall while CU improves to 2-1 on the year.

CSU took the early momentum and built a 15 point lead with 8:22 left in the opening half behind the play of sophomore
Michael Reeves. Reeves finished the half with 10 points and four rebounds as CSU took a 37-27 lead at the intermission.

Darweshi Hunter scored 11 points in the first seven minutes of the second half as CSU extended its lead to 20 with 13:37 to play. CU responded by attacking the paint, scoring their next eight baskets down low to cut into the CSU lead. A emphatic dunk by Quinton Green brought Cedarville within single-digits, 65-56, with 6:16 to play.

CSU maintained its distance from Cedarville as a steal and layin by
Tom Johnson put the Marauders up 70-61 with 2:12 left in regulation. Branden Maughmer hit from beyond the arc on Cedarville's next possession. After a defensive stop, Green converted from three-point range to bring CU within three, 70-67. After CSU failed to execute on its next offensive possession, Isaiah Speelman tied the game with a three ball from the corner to knot the score up, 70-70, with three seconds on the clock.

Hunter, who had been bottled up by the CU defense down the stretch, missed the potential game-winner with defenders draped over him as the teams went on to extra time.

A phased Marauder team surrendered a 7-0 run to fall behind 77-70 with 2:24 left in overtime. CSU was just two-for-seven from the field in extra time and failed to get to the free throw line as CU completed the comeback victory, 83-75.

CU outrebounded CSU, 56-33 and held a 44-36 edge in points scored in the paint.

All five Cedarville starters scored in double-figures. Kollin Van Horn scored 17 of his 19 points in the second half and overtime. Green, who fought through foul trouble throughout the night, finished with 13 points in 15 minutes of play. Maughmer, Speelman and Conner TenHove all finished with double-doubles.

CSU was paced by Hunter's 19 points. Guard
Harris Brown finished with a season-high 18 points and six assists. Reeves added 12 points and seven rebounds.

CSU will look to bounce back when they host Urbana on Tuesday at 7:30 pm.
