Lady Marauders fall to fourth ranked Lewis University
 
ROMEOVILLE, Illinois – The Lady Marauders of Central State were bested by No. 4 ranked Lewis University, 101-91, on Tuesday night.
 
With the loss, the Lady Marauders fall to a record of 5-10 overall. The Lewis Flyers improve to 12-1 on the season.
 
Falon Edwards scored a quick six points allowing CSU to jump out to an early 12-5 lead. Lewis responded by makings its next six shots from the field to spark a 17-5 run and led 22-21 at the end of the first quarter.
 
The Flyers opened the second quarter with a 9-1 run and led by as many as 13 before taking a 43-36 lead at halftime.
 
Central State remained within striking distance, trailing by only seven less than four minutes into the quarter. The Flyers seized control with 16-2 run behind seven points from Jessica Kelliher.
 
CSU entered the final 10 minutes of play trailing by 13. A 7-0 CSU run midway through the fourth quarter cut the Lewis lead down to 84-77 with 5:33 to play but Kelliher scored eight of her team's next 13 points as the Flyer lead ballooned back up to 18. Up 97-79, LU cruised to their twelfth straight win.
 
Kelliher finished with a career-high 38 points. Joining Kelliher in double figures was Rachel Hinders with 13 while Dajae Black added 10 off the bench.
 
All five starters reached double figures for Central State led by Bri'elle Johnson's career-high 19 points. Takyra Gilbert and Edwards added 16 points each. Aaron Evans had a game-high 12 rebounds to go along with 14 points.
 
CSU will travel to play Miles College in Fairfield, Alabama on Saturday.

CSU's 91 points is the most the Lady Marauders have scored since beating Salem University, 94-52, on Dec. 10, 2017.
 
Tuesday's game against Lewis marked the fourth team CSU has played who is currently ranked in the NCAA Div. II Top 25 National Poll.
 
Lewis entered Tuesday ranked No. 4 in the latest NCAA Div. II National Poll.
 
Prior to Tuesday's game, CSU had only faced LU once coming away with a 48-45 victory in February of 1987.
