Lady Marauders go cold down stretch in loss to Miles

Lady Marauders drop third straight game with 69-57 loss to Miles

FAIRFIELD, Alabama – The Lady Marauders of Central State lost 69-57 to Miles College on Saturday.

With the loss, the Lady Marauders fall to a record of 5-11 overall with a 3-5 ledger in the SIAC. Miles improves to 9-2 overall with an SIAC West Division leading 5-1 mark.

Behind a quick five points from guard Takyra Gilbert, CSU jumped out to a 10-5 lead. MC countered with a 9-0 run and took a 16-15 lead as the team entered the second quarter.

MC reserves Je'Keria Strickland and Jasmine Hollis provided a spark off the bench as the Golden Bears built their lead up to 11. Strickland scored nine points in the second period while Hollis added six as the Golden Bears took a 38-27 at the break.

Miles maintained its double-digit lead throughout the majority of the third quarter. Free throws by MC's Victoria Sutton at the end of the half sent the teams into the fourth quarter with Miles up, 57-45.

Central State managed to cut the deficit down to seven after a Jaeda Davis make from three-point range. Poor shooting hindered CSU from making further progress as the Lady Marauders missed their last seven shots from the field allowing Miles to cruise to the 12-point win.

Led by Hollis and Strickland, the MC bench outscored the CSU reserves, 34-14.

Hollis led Miles with 19 points and 16 rebounds. Strickland finished with 13 points.

Gilbert led the CSU scoring with 13 points along with six assists. Falon Edwards and Davis added 12 points each. Daesjah Ely contributed off the bench of 10 points and five rebounds.

CSU will return to action on the road on Monday at Tuskegee University
