SALEM, West Virginia – The Central State Marauders fell to Salem University, 85-79, on Thursday night.

Losing their fourth straight game, the Marauders drop to 2-16 overall. SU improves to 10-7 on the season.

Salem opened the game with a 13-3 run and led by as many as 18 in the first half. A good three-pointer from Marko Tutunovic gave SU a 37-19 lead with 4:34 left in the half and the Tigers went on to take a comfortable 16-point lead at the break.

SI began the second half with a Malik Toppin putback dunk. CSU's Orion Monford provided a jumpstart for the Marauder offense with back-to-back three pointers to help cut the deficit down to eight with 16:08 to play. SU regained momentum with a 14-4 run capped off by another Toppin dunk. Down by 16 with 11:48 to go, CSU battled back with a 16-4 run. A three-pointer by Randal Clarkson, Jr. cut the SU lead down, 64-61. CSU continued to chip away and took its first lead, 73-72, with two Michael Reeves free throws at the 3:41 mark.

Leading 79-76 with 1:42 left on the clock, the Marauders surrendered a three-pointer to SU's Fonz Hale. Tutonovic earned three straight trips to the free throw line, converting all six attempts as SU ended the game on a 9-0 run to seal the victory.

Tutonovic came off the bench to lead his team with 19 points. Toppin finished with 17 points, seven rebounds and three blocks.

Orion Monford led CSU scorers with a season-high 22 points. Clarkson also recorded season-highs with 15 points and six steals. 

The Marauders will resume conference play this Saturday against Spring Hill College

CSU recorded its highest point total in a half (56) during the second half of Thursday's game.

CSU converted a season-high 88.2% (15-17) from the free throw line on Thursday.
